Is Google updating Page Rank (PR)?

Wednesday, April 23, 2008

It seems that Google has started to update the Page Rank again. I am not sure whether any one else has noticed the changes in the Page Rank. My search on Google did not really show any blogger writing about this. But, I noticed a drop in this blog’s Page Rank yesterday.

Yes, the Page Rank of this blog has dropped from PR4 to PR2. I was a bit disappointed when I saw the Google toolbar showing PR2 for my blog. To confirm, I did check the page rank of this blog using some of the google page rank checkers. Sites like prchecker and blogflux confirmed this. I tried MyPageRank.net to see the results on the various Google data centres. All the data centres consistently show a page rank of 2.

So, it is clear that this blog is penalized by Google by 2 page rank points. While that is not good news, I am just hoping that it is a temporary glitch in the Google PR update. How good it would it be to wake up with a PR5 or PR6 tomorrow? Not all dreams come true.

How about you? Do you see any change in your blog’s PR? Please subscribe to my feed if you like this post

Hi Free Money Maker,

Thanks for your comments. It is disappointing, but we have to move on. Let us be positive and move ahead.

Hey,

I tried your suggestions, what do you think is it better now or worst?

Your page is cool btw.

Hi linksysone,

I should say that I like your style of writing. But, as I have suggested, look at changing your layout to a better one. Another thing I noticed is that you are not using any labels for classifying your posts. This is important. Please include labels/ tags/ categories for all your posts.

Maybe, we can review again after you have posted a few discussions.

I don't want to alarm you but I had a PR4 reduced to PR3 some time back. After it was reduced to PR0.

All that was because of paid posts like PPP and smorty.

Manick i think you need a pagerank widget on your blog.

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for that information. I know a drop in PR is a kind of blacklisting. So, I won't be surprised if Google completely drops me off one day. Anyway, I respect them in spite of what they do.

Hi WidgetsForFree,

How does having a pagerank widget on the blog helps? I do not understand. I have read people writing similar advice for Alexa ranking. Does it apply to Google too? I don't think so.

Hi Manick,

I'm sure you know that Google has been doing this with blogs writing sponsored posts via PayPal & the like.

Why don't you do away with them.

Besides the penalty, these posts are hardly of any use to your reader.

Neverthless, i am sure you'll soon find your blog among the high rankers again.

Hi Ryan,

Thanks for your comments and valuable advice. I do not go all out writing sponsored reviews.

I have to consider removing all the affiliate links pointing to sponsored reviews site.

No It doesn't help to have the widget on your blog. Thought you just might it so you can check on it every time your at your site. Guess what?? My pagerank just went down from a 3 to 2 a few days ago!

Hi widgetsforfree,

Thanks for the clarification. I am not really interested in displaying the PageRank at this moment. Will use your widget if I decide to display it in the future.

It is sad to know that you are also affected by a reduction in PR. I think Google is personally selecting blogs to impose the penalty before going off with the next PR update.

weakness of g00gle pagerank: (1) only for spesific "keyword relevancy" to your "single" page, neither category, nor global site. (2) dynamic, a.ka. unstable rank, depends on google's bot and some commercial sites which pay google. (3) suck your bandwith, or slow down the page loading for 4-5 seconds. why should we install the google page rank? read f*ckin- SEO manuals, my friends!
