Today.com VIP Blogger

Today.com is a blogging platform that makes writing and maintaining a blog easy. It pays you for blogging, without restricting you. When you sign up, you are given a VIP Blogger status that allows you to earn money based on the page impressions your blog generates. Here is my trial blog on Today.com, Cricket and India; take a look if you are interested.

Who should write for Today.com?
Today.com is suitable for bloggers who are unable to make significant money with their normal blog, be it on Blogger, Wordpress or self-hosted. Today.com pays you $2.00 per one thousand page impressions. Compare this with your Adsense earnings. If you struggle to reach $2.00 eCPM, then Today.com is worth a try. All you have to do is concentrate on your blogging and promotion of your blog. The advertisement part is taken care of by Today.com.

How to generate traffic to your blog?
I personally prefer search engine traffic. I find that Today.com blogs are generally doing well on search engines, similar to Blogger blogs. So, you have to get enough backlinks for your primary keyword and while blogging target your primary keyword and secondary keywords. Look at the picture below. This is a screenshot from my trial blog.

Referring Sites
As you can see, I am not trying any blog promotion other than getting traffic from search engines like, Google and Yahoo. All I did is to create a blog, get some keyword-anchored backlinks and wrote content targeting my keywords. I am not getting tons of traffic, but I am having enough to keep the blog going. If you take a close look, I did get some traffic from Entrecard and Stumbleupon. But, I have removed Entrecard widget since, as I do not have enough time to drop cards. What I want is traffic without any effort, or simply to put, I want Search Engine Traffic.

Can I use Entrecard?
Of course, you can use it. But, ensure that you disable paid advertisements in your advert settings of Entrecard. So, if you are a dropaholic with 300 drops a day, then probably you could easily get thousand of unique visits to your blog. Today.com has no restriction, so far, on where the traffic comes from. You can get traffic from Entrecard, Digg, Stumbleupon or any social networks. It does not matter.

Important Points
  • Spend time before deciding on your topic. It is better to have a topic that is less competitive, but have significant amount of search traffic.

  • Once you decided your topic, choose your URL. Ensure that your primary keyword is included in the URL. This is very important as you cannot change your URL once you have committed.

  • Post few articles and start looking for backlinks. Backlinks helps to quickly get indexed by Google.

  • Keep posting regularly with your primary/ secondary keywords until search engine traffic starts to flow in.

  • Now, you can slow down your posting frequency and post only when you are free. Search engines will take care of sending regular traffic to you.

How to sign up?
You can sign up by clicking here. This is an affiliate link and I thank you for signing up through me. Today.com pays $5.00 for every successful referral, if the referral goes on to post at least 30 individual posts on 30 individual days.

worth to try

anshul April 22, 2009 at 11:45 AM

Really friend it it pretty good 2$/1000 impression because adsense too is nt giving me that much earnings but i dont think the traffic google gives to bloggers or any custom domain will give to subdomain on today.com as i also want relax traffic from search engines.

Manick April 22, 2009 at 10:31 PM

Blogger Rise: Yes, I think it is worth a try. Not a big money, but it may also help you to build your blog network for valuable links.

Anshul: If you are not making more than $2 eCPM, Today.com is good. Regarding the search engine traffic, I disagree with you. You will get better search engine traffic from a sub-domain on Today.com rather than your own custom domain. The reason is that Today.com has already established an authority in Google and any new sub-domains will immediately get a portion of that authority. If you want to get the same authority on your own domain, it needs a good amount of backlinks and some time as age of the blog plays a big part in Google. Thanks.

thanx manick sounds good but now have to think for blog niche as already i am having 3 blogs and no time to update all..

And manick i think you should buy domian for your this blog as google hasn't given you pr on this blogspot.

I'm finding things pretty slow on my Today blog (http://stitchinglifetogether.today.com/), it was pretty good until EC changed virtually everything connected to EC, and I had to nix my widget. I'm having a hard building any consistent traffic there now. I do tweet about it, have it listed on blog catalog, blogarama, and just signed up for blogher the other day. Good luck to you.

Love visitors
Sandy

Manick April 23, 2009 at 8:01 PM

Anshul: Yes, find a niche that you can write about. As Today.com pays per visitor, choose something that can bring you search engine visitors. Managing time and juggling between blogs is certainly tough.

Thanks for your suggestion. I am not interested in buying a domain for myself. I am quite happy with sub-domains. In fact, Google ranked me at PR4 sometime ago. I lost it as I wrote some sponsored reviews here. Since then, I realized the problem and dropped them completely.

Hope, one day, I can get back my PR. Anyway, I am using this blog more for building network. My earning blogs will look completely different.

Sandy: As I said in my post, you have to target search engines. No point in spending hours on social traffic. Waste of time, if you want to make money from your blog. The problem with social traffic is you have to be active always. If you don't drop cards for one or two days, the traffic will go down. Good luck.

Making money with Adsense it's becoming harder and harder. Couple of years ago, Adsense program was really hot

Nowdays, affiliate earnings are much more rewarding. More and more publishers go into CPA networks everyday. Adsense is paying penny per clicks .. Too bad .. I actually enjoyed it while it lasted.

Hi CPA Arbitrage,

Yes, I agree. Adsense is very difficult to make money. You need to do lot of research and work on getting search engine traffic. If you have a niche that is not good on Google, then you will get pennies. Thanks.

hmm, I think this is not for me because I have bad english.. huhu

Manick May 3, 2009 at 6:25 PM

Hi Newbiesblogger,

Many of us have bad English. That should not stop you from blogging. Keep going. Cheers!

Sandy May 18, 2009 at 7:22 PM

I'm not sure how to target search engines. Everything I've read says sign up for everything, all directories so your blog is linked etc. So, I've been doing alot of that.

Came here to drop, as you're on the list of those who always drop back; but am not finding your widget.

Hi
You might want to clarify that $2 CPM is the "premium" rate, paid for google and other search hits, while what seems to be $1 CPM is paid out for most other traffic, especially Stumble Upon, Reddit, Entrecard and the like.

Before signing up for today.com I would strongly suggest reading the stories of former today bloggers found at todayexiles.blogspot.com

Today is not all it touts itself to be, to put it simply.

Very useful blog good stuff that you provide Thank anyway!

Michele Cameron Drew May 25, 2009 at 11:04 AM

I'll try not to leave a huge comment here and trash today.com, because it does have a few good features, but I will say this: I had a today.com blog for about 6 mos. The constant changes in their network were always causing great upheaval. I never received much search engine traffic and they do not pay for traffic exchange traffic. You are not allowed to place any affiliate links on your pages and they will keep your blog and your content if you try to move from their network.

If you don't care about any of that then perhaps today.com is the way to go. I have realized recently that it is not for me. There are dozens of others out there that feel the same. Do a search for today.com exiles or you can read more about my experiences by clicking on my name.

Thanks,
-M

hello... hapi blogging... have a nice day! just visiting here....

Manick May 27, 2009 at 5:07 AM

Sandy: It is not necessary to sign up for everything. You need to get links to your blog with keyword anchored text. If you can get some useful links, then it is fine. I will post a detailed article soon on this.

My Entrecard widget is on the rightmost column. Thanks for your drops.

lynne: I am not sure about that. So far, they did not distinguish in the rates for my traffic. My earnings work out at $2per thousand impressions.

Of course, it is worth targetting search engine traffic. It is worth the effort for the blogger as well as Today.com team.

laneerg: I am not sure about Today.com. This is purely a trial blog I am working with. In case the earnings are not worth, then I will use the blog to create useful links to some of my new blogs.

Michele: I fully agree with what you have said. Yes, they do not allow you to place any advertisements on your own. This is clear when Entrecard started off with paid ads. Of course, you also have to part with your content if you decide to leave them.

I am not a supporter of Today.com. I have started out on this and would know the outcome after some time. I appreciate your feedback and will keep it in mind. Thanks.

Hapi: Thanks. Have a nice day too.

Joanne Olivieri May 29, 2009 at 7:05 PM

As with Michelle and Laneerg I also had two blogs with Today.com for 8 months and first I want to say that they do no allow any advertising on their blogs that will make the blogger any money. They push you to buy advertising on other Today.com blogs and also use their referral links in your posts. They do not pay $2.00 per thousand even if you have all of your traffic from google. I know this to be a fact on my blogs. Please do research on them before you sign up.

Manick June 18, 2009 at 5:49 PM

Poetic Shutterbag: Thanks for your valuable feedback. When I sign up with Today.com, I know that they don't allow you to advertise yourself. It is more for people who just want to write and do not spend time in finding the advertisements.

I will do the research before spending too much time on my Today blog.

Free CSS Templates: Thanks for your comments. Hope you had a great response for your contest.

Interesting. I have a couple new sites/blogs I want to start up so I'll try today.com for at least one of them, thanks.

Priyanka Bhowmick July 12, 2009 at 4:08 AM

shit!! it doesn't allow registration at my location..!!!

Manick July 13, 2009 at 5:19 PM

Roy Blacksail: Good, you can try Today.com. It is not as bad as some people have portrayed. Of course, the success depends on the amount of traffic you generate. And, their minimum payout of $50 is also too much for beginners. But, I am still working on it. I am getting some search engine traffic and trying to leverage on it.

Priyanka: I am not sure whether they have any restriction on the residence requirements. I thought you should not have any problem as long as you have a Paypal address. What are they saying?

How to register on this site.

Manick August 22, 2010 at 7:18 PM

It seems Today.com has been closed down/ been acquired by MSN. I am not sure of what happened to the blogs that were on Today.com domain (including my own blog). So, as of now, you cannot sign up/ register for this site.

The Winner is a cellular cellphone that has all the centers of a superb cell cellphone however with a very low rate tag. It is a cellphone that could be a aggregate of the capabilities of a mobile phone and the functionality of a conventional cellular phone.
