Comment with URL in Blogger

Sunday, November 16, 2008

Blogger Comment ProfileI still notice many Blogger/ Blogspot bloggers are using their Blogger profile to leave their comments. With the recent (quite sometime already) changes to the Blogger commenting system, you can use Name/ URL format. I advise my readers to follow this system while leaving comments.

Advantages of leaving URL
(1) If you are using Blogger profile, then it becomes difficult to find your blog (I am assuming you have more than one blog in Blogger). When I visit a Blogger's profile, there are so many blogs listed. I had this difficulty many times when bloggers leave comment about problems with my widgets. I tried to help them by visiting their blogs, but I have to sift through a complete list of blogs. If you use Name/URL feature, it is easy to locate your blog.

(2) It also helps to bring in more visitors. Visitors prefer to visit your blog rather than visiting your blog profile.

(3) If a blog uses “Do follow” in their comments, then you will get a link back to your blog.

Blogger's Old Comment Profile
So, from now on, remember to use the Name/ URL to leave comments on other blogs. Use your Blogger profile only to reply to comments on your own blog. Please subscribe to my feed if you like this post

I've always use name and url for leaving comments.
WordPress or Blogger.

Manick November 17, 2008 6:08 AM

Hi Pangeran,

That's good to know. You are doing the right thing. But, still some Blogger users (including me, at times) use Blogger profile to leave comments. Thanks for your comments.

anshul November 17, 2008 7:54 AM

Yup me too always use url as it sometimes give an backlink to the blog.
But i found half of them using there blogger profile . will be nice information for other bloggers:)

CJ Harley November 17, 2008 8:31 AM

Thanks for that tip! I did not realize that when I used my identity it linked to my profile page. I always want it to link to my blog.

Manick November 17, 2008 5:12 PM

Anshul: Thanks. I hope everyone recognizes the importance of using URL. Glad to know that you are already using URL to leave comments.

Harley: Yes, everyone wants to link to their blog. This is one of the complaints early on against Blogger's commenting system. Now, it is up to us to use the new system to our advantage.

maxpayne November 18, 2008 6:51 AM

thanks

Manick November 18, 2008 8:09 PM

Hi Maxpayne,

You are welcome. Thanks for your comments.

Experiments in Cyberspace November 19, 2008 2:24 PM

Although I knew that Blogger linked to your profile, apparently most did not. So, if there is a nomination somewhere for "the most useful tip", my vote is yours; simple, efficient, helpful.

Manick November 19, 2008 5:01 PM

Hi "Experiments in Cyberspace",

Thanks for your comments.

Pinoy Rich Jerk November 20, 2008 1:30 AM

Hi "Pinoy Rich Jerk",

You got it right. Make it easy for someone to reach your blog.

The Chatty Housewife November 21, 2008 7:53 PM

Great tip! Thank you. :)

techniqueal t. November 22, 2008 9:26 AM

definitely. leaving the exact URL or using the name/URL option in blogger comments is certainly more useful especially in easily locating your website and building links.

this is mostly overlooked. glad you blogged about this. ^_^

The Midnight Writer 1 November 22, 2008 10:54 PM

It's a great system with blogspot as well. I encourage folks to leave a comment with a url on my sites as well. Start at The Midnight Writer's Journal. Also, I like the blog u back concept and am looking for some candidates to write about. May I feature your blog?
The Midnight Writer

Fransiska Ike November 23, 2008 1:35 AM

Sometimes, blog's owner disable that option on comment form. When that happens, all you can do is using Blogger account to post comment there.

dawn November 23, 2008 11:37 AM

I just recently figured this out on my own - thanks for the confirmation I was doing the right thing!

Manick November 24, 2008 5:57 PM

The Chatty Housewife: Thanks for your comments.

Techniqueal: Yes, this is mostly overlooked. We are used to the previous version of Blogger's commenting system and will take some time to adjust. Thanks.

The Midnight Writer: Thanks for your comments. But, I could not understand your invitation. Do you want me to write about something? Or do you want to feature my blog somewhere else? Please clarify. I would be glad to assist.

Fransiska Ike: You are absolutely right. I am really disappointed to see some bloggers disabling this option. I had come across such blogs and I used to skip commenting in those blogs. Thanks.

Dawn: Glad you figured it out yourself. You are doing the right thing! Thanks.

Manick November 30, 2008 6:34 AM

Hi Anshul,

I am glad to exchange link with you. The anchor text is "Blogger Widgets". Can you include a link with the anchor text "Widgets for Blogger"?

johnV November 30, 2008 7:30 PM

This is a very useful tip. Here, lemme use it right now. Thanks!

Manick December 1, 2008 6:24 AM

Hi John,

Hi John,

Thanks for your kind words. I will take a look at your blog. What do you mean by profile submission?

Takumi86 December 2, 2008 9:36 AM

Just a word of advice from me asset, why dont you use the new wordpress comment form for blogger so it will making it easier for other to leave comment without having new window opened. Just a thought no hard feeling okay?!

Oh btw, i have enabled DoFollow link in my blog :)

Manick December 5, 2008 12:28 AM

Hi Takumi86,

Thanks for your suggestion. Certainly, no hard feeling. I am happy that you take enough care to highlight shortcomings on my part.

In fact, I am a bit lazy to implement the embedded comment feature on this blog. I need to tweak the code a bit. I will do it soon.

Takumi86 December 7, 2008 9:24 AM

Hi Manick
i notice you drop comment onto my blog, would you mind to exchanging link with me? Cause i saw your blog has potential

If you interested, you can put "Anything Goes Blog" in anchor text

Thanks

Manick December 7, 2008 8:28 PM

Hi Takumi86,

I have added a link to your blog under my blog roll. Thanks.

Takumi86 December 8, 2008 6:29 AM

I just added you onto my Blogroll with Blogger widget as anchor text
Thanks for the trade and keep posting

If you need any help on how to ake embedded comment form, you can read my post here

Comment form just like Wordpress

Feel free to drop comment if you having hard time and i'll gladly assist you

Tomas December 9, 2008 3:04 PM

Thank you. I never bothered with the appearance of my signature, yet after reading your post I understood that name/URl would look much better than just a link to my profile page. I have many blogs - while one is on blogspot, other are located on WordPress and thus THANK YOU once again.

Manick December 9, 2008 5:19 PM

Takumi86: Thanks for your useful info and the back link. I will take a look at your post. I saw one earlier at BloggerBuster, but did not go through.

Tomas: Thanks for your comments. I am glad that you realized the advantage of using Name/ URL feature in place of Blogger profile.

Success With Women December 12, 2008 10:04 AM

thanks you for sharing idea about this topic.

Manick December 12, 2008 5:17 PM

Hi "Success with women",

Thanks.

Solo December 16, 2008 6:14 AM

I don't comment on people who use blogger when there is no this option. I am not sure if they can set it or not in their setting.

Manick December 16, 2008 9:02 PM

Yes Solo, you are not alone. Many of my Wordpress friends told me this. They were against commenting on Blogger blogs because of the trouble they had to go through.

Its good that Blogger has implemented this new feature which would help Blogger blogs get more comments. Unfortunately, I too notice that some bloggers have not enabled the Name/URL feature in their blog.

dickster1961 January 3, 2009 6:10 PM

Thanks for the tip. I have always used the blogger when leaving comments because when you open the comments in defaults to it. I will have to start using the name/url

Manick January 4, 2009 6:16 AM

Hi Dickster1961,

Yes, the default points to your Blogger profile. But, we need to override this and use the name/ url feature for obvious benefits as listed in the post. Thanks.

kaysheehan January 9, 2009 12:13 PM

Its good content and i think I can learn from your articles…may I link Exchange with you???if you like you just visit my blog and then drop your comment its automatic back link for you because I’m Do Follow….Thanks for your attention…

Manick January 11, 2009 8:02 PM

Hi Kaysheehan,

Thanks for your comments. I have temporarily stopped link exchanges, while I am trying to clean up my blog. Hope you understand. Thanks for your offer.

Rainer January 17, 2009 8:49 PM

Well this is a good tip. I wanted to try it here once. So thank you for sharing the information...

Manick January 22, 2009 9:17 PM

Hi Rainer, Well Done. You have taken a step in the right direction. Keep using this feature in Blogger for your own benefit. Thanks.

rahman February 2, 2009 4:46 AM

Good article, i did it before, but i didn't realize until i read this

yulius February 11, 2009 9:40 AM

how i add code name/URL in my blog? thanks

Jan from BetterSpines February 16, 2009 11:22 AM

I prefer the name/URL format because I am with WordPress not Blogger. And I prefer to have the link right up front!

Manick February 16, 2009 4:17 PM

Rahman: Thanks. Sometimes we do act in the right way without realizing that this is the best way to do it.

Yulius: You need not do anything. Blogger, by default, has name/URL feature included in the comments section. All you have to do is select this feature when you leave a comment in other blogs. Thanks. Just like what you have done here.

Jan: Yes, Wordpress had this feature all along. Only Blogger delayed implementing this until recently. Thanks.

Clear Cards February 16, 2009 10:02 PM

Thanks for this useful information.

Manick March 1, 2009 5:27 AM

Hi Clear Cards,

You are welcome.

Movies Online May 15, 2009 5:44 PM

Very good stuff and I trying to do that so

Manick June 18, 2009 5:53 PM

Hi "Movies Online",

Try to follow this. It will be useful. Thanks for your comments.

thingswelovetohate.com June 21, 2009 10:45 PM

Regarding my myLot discussion.

I was asking if it were possible for comments to have clickable content like the following http://www.thingswelovetohate.com to appear as a link instead of plain text.

thingswelovetohate.com June 21, 2009 10:46 PM

am trying to use html now...

www.thingswelovetohate.com

Manick June 23, 2009 7:14 AM

Hi "Thingswelovetohate.com",

You got it right the second time. You have to use the hyperlink tag < a > for the url you want to show as a clickable link. Actually, I wanted to show an example in myLot. But, somehow, myLot did not allow me to include the < a > tag. I am glad you understood it. Thanks.
